La compagnie low cost air Arabia va établir son deuxième hub à Rabat. ce nouveau hub lui permettra de viser le ciel européen, nord africain et du moyen orient. La compagnie, basée à Sharjah aux Emirats Arabes Unis, a ajouté qu'un accord avec le transporteur marocain Régional Airlines (RAL) a été signé. Selon cet accord Air Arabia contrôlera la gestion de RAL et appliquera son modèle d'administration à la compagnie tout en participant, avec la société Bahreïni Ithmar, dans son capital.
"Cet accord nous fournit une opportunité d'entrer sur les marchés en plein essor de l'Afrique du Nord et de l'Europe du Sud", a annoncé le PDG d'Air Arabia, Adel Ali.
"Air Arabia sera en mesure d'étendre la zone de couverture en Europe, au Moyen-Orient et en Afrique", a-t-il ajouté. Hormis la création de ce nouveau centre à Rabat, la compagnie aérienne fondée il y a quatre ans prévoit également un investissement dans le développement d'un troisième centre en Asie du Sud ou au Moyen-Orient.
Selon les médias locaux, Air Arabia va faire une commande de plus de 50 avions pour remplacer son actuelle flotte de 10 Airbus A320 loués, lors du prochain salon de l'aéronautique de Dubaï prévu du 11 au 15 novembre.
La compagnie envisage également de lancer de nouvelles lignes et des vols supplémentaires reliant Chypre, la Grèce, la Turquie, l'Asie centrale et d'autres pays membres du Conseil de coopération du Golfe.
Créée en octobre 2003 et s'inspirant du modèle de compagnies aériennes à bas coût aux Etats-Unis et en Europe, Air Arabia est la première et la plus importante société du genre au Moyen-Orient et en Afrique du Nord.

Air Arabia will establish a second hub in the Moroccan capital of Rabat that will allow it to carry passengers to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, the company said yesterday.
The Sharjah-based budget airline announced on Wednesday that it has signed a management agreement with Regional Air Lines, a private carrier in Morocco.
Under the agreement, Air Arabia will assume management control of the carrier and apply its business model to its management. In addition, Air Arabia and Bahrain-based Ithmaar Bank will invest capital in the Moroccan airline.
"This agreement provides us with the opportunity to reach into fast-growing markets in North Africa and across the Med-iterranean into southern Europe," said CEO Adel Ali. "Air Arabia will now be able to expand this coverage area across the Europe, Middle East and Africa [EMEA] region."
Mohammad Hassan Bin Salah, chairman of Regional Air Lines, said, "Considering that Morocco expects to welcome an estimated 10 million tourists a year by 2010, this is an timely announcement. There is also a very large Moroccan diaspora who will benefit."
Air Arabia, widely expected to place an order of 34 to 50 aircraft worth $4 billion at next week's Dubai Airshow, has said in the past it wants to develop three hubs in total.
Air Arabia was founded in 2003 and became profitable two years later.
In 2006, it carried 1.7 million passengers. It is the first budget airline in the Middle East and North Africa, but it will not be the first to establish a second base of operations.
That distinction goes to Kuwait's Jazeera Airways, which opened a hub in Dubai earlier this year.
