Barclays Capital appoints Abdellah Sbai as Head of Aircraft Finance

Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, today announced the appointment of Abdellah Sbai as Director and Head of Aircraft Finance. Sbai will be based in London and will report to Michael Raynes, Director and Head of Structured Trade and Export Finance.

In his new role, Sbai will be responsible for further developing the aircraft financing business of Barclays Capital which will primarily focus on structuring and executing debt and risk management products.

Sbai joins Barclays Capital from Airbus, where he held a number of senior positions since joining the company as a senior analyst in 1990. Most recently, he was Vice President, Sales, for Northern Africa and the Middle East. During his tenure in this role he made a significant contribution to the growth of Airbus' commercial operation in the Middle East.

Commenting on the appointment, Michael Raynes said: "Abdellah brings strong relationships and a wealth of knowledge of the aircraft industry. He will play a key role in expanding our aircraft business." Sbai graduated as an engineer from the Ecole Nationale Superieure de l'Aeronautique et de l'Espace, in Toulouse (France), where he also gained a PhD in Aerodynamics.

Mr Sbai began his career in 1988 at Royal Air Maroc as Management Assistant. He joined Airbus in 1990, as a Senior Analyst in marketing. He was promoted as Area Sales Director at the end of 1993. Abdellah Sbai was born in Fez, Morocco, in 1959
